About the role
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain animal care standards and policies to support university research and teaching programs.
- Maintain animal care facilities and programs in accordance with public policy requirements and accreditation standards.
- Provide advice and counsel to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
- Oversee clinical activities across multiple vivaria and participate in training programs for residents and undergraduates.
- Perform clinical and technical services, including providing clinical care to animals and conducting experimental surgeries.
- Offer surgical and anesthesia support for research programs.
- Support or serve as the Registration Coordinator for the Controlled Dangerous Substances Program.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of formal training in laboratory animal medicine or comparable experience.
- Valid veterinary license in at least one US state.
- Ability to obtain Federal DEA and New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance licenses within six months of hire.
- Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including walking and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
- Research credentials such as an MS or PhD.
- USDA Accredited Veterinarian status.
- Successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
