Clinical Veterinarian

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain animal care standards and policies to support university research and teaching programs.
• Maintain animal care facilities and programs in accordance with public policy requirements and accreditation standards.
• Provide advice and counsel to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
• Oversee clinical activities across multiple vivaria and participate in training programs for residents and undergraduates.
• Perform clinical and technical services, including providing clinical care to animals and conducting experimental surgeries.
• Offer surgical and anesthesia support for research programs.
• Support or serve as the Registration Coordinator for the Controlled Dangerous Substances Program.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of formal training in laboratory animal medicine or comparable experience.
• Valid veterinary license in at least one US state.
• Ability to obtain Federal DEA and New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance licenses within six months of hire.
• Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including walking and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
• Research credentials such as an MS or PhD.
• USDA Accredited Veterinarian status.
• Successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
