Clinical Pharmacist Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective, and prompt research medication therapy for patients in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
• Assess patient needs, incorporate age and disease-specific characteristics into drug therapy, and provide patient education.
• Perform clinical interventions to detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events.
• Manage and facilitate appropriate medication use according to professional and regulatory standards.
• Participate in Site Initiation Visits, study activation, proof of concept, and drug accountability.
• Conduct clinical research, practice advancement projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a preceptor for Doctor of Pharmacy students and pharmacy residents.
• Perform sterile and non-sterile compounding (hazardous and non-hazardous) using aseptic technique.

Requirements

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency.
• Knowledge of hospital operations, clinical practice, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to perform sterile and non-sterile compounding with aseptic technique validation.
• Eligible for Illinois pharmacist licensure (or ability to complete the process within 60 days).
• Board Certification (e.g., BPS, SOCRA) required within 18 months of hire.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy or another advanced degree.
• PGY-2 Investigational Drugs and Research residency.
• 2-4 years of clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.
