About the role
Responsibilities
- Review and verify chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care orders
- Assess laboratory values, organ function, and treatment history prior to medication verification
- Provide clinical support to physicians and nursing staff regarding treatment plans and toxicity management
- Participate in the development and maintenance of oncology treatment protocols
- Provide patient counseling regarding medications, side effects, and administration schedules
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and recommend interventions
- Collaborate with financial counseling and prior authorization teams regarding specialty medications
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
- Current pharmacist licensure in Alabama
- Ability to work in a clinical and cleanroom environment
- Ability to safely handle hazardous medications
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of oncology pharmacy experience
- Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS)
- Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP)
- Experience with oncology EMR systems and chemotherapy order verification
- Strong knowledge of NCCN guidelines
