About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the administrative and clinical nursing leader for the University Hospital Operating Room.
  • Coordinate patient care and operational activities to ensure high standards of care and efficient throughput between OR, PACU, Anesthesia, and inpatient units.
  • Develop and implement unit goals, standards of practice, and staffing patterns to meet patient needs and regulatory guidelines.
  • Supervise unit operations, including interviewing, selecting, and evaluating nursing staff performance.
  • Manage personnel and commodity budgets, providing regular updates on variances to leadership.
  • Facilitate staff development through in-service guidelines, orientation, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to resolve operational problems and implement institutional objectives.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Business, or a related field (if the degree is not in Nursing, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience with progressive clinical competence.
  • Two (2) years of recent leadership experience, including management, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Nurse Leadership certification (e.g., CNML or NE-BC) or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of recent supervisory experience specifically in a multi-specialty operating room department.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of RN experience in a multi-specialty operating room department.
  • Experience in managing large, complex OR budgets and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of designing and constructing Operating Room suites.
