About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day operations of the Specimen Processing Department, supporting supervisors in lab productivity and workflow management
- Support operational initiatives including quality and process improvements, SOP development, and department audits
- Perform quality and safety investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive action plans
- Assist with team leadership tasks such as schedule creation, 1:1 documentation, employee feedback, and interviewing
- Maintain accurate documentation following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and comply with Quality Management System policies
- Support the Clinical Lab Training Department by reviewing materials and providing training to team members
- Handle and dispose of specimens following standard precautions and applicable safety policies
Requirements
- High School Degree or General Education Diploma
- 3+ years of experience working in a laboratory, medical, or high-throughput environment
- 2+ years of experience leading, mentoring, or coaching others
- General knowledge of CAP, GLP, GDP, CLIA, and HIPAA
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and internet navigation
- Ability to work weekend overnight shifts (Saturday - Monday, 6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and handle bodily fluids/specimens
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory
- Experience troubleshooting automation and performing instrument maintenance
- Lean experience (Kaizen, Kanban, root cause analysis, etc.)
