About the role

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive outpatient care for hepatobiliary and transplant patients, including performing advanced assessments and coordinating diagnostic work-ups.
  • Conduct thorough history and physical examinations and initiate outpatient diagnostic plans in collaboration with supervising surgeons.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and screening tests, ensuring timely follow-up and communication of results to patients and referring physicians.
  • Assist in minor outpatient procedures such as venipuncture, wound care, debridement, and catheter placement under direct supervision.
  • Serve as a first or second assistant in the operating room, assisting with scrubbing, monitoring, and skin closure.
  • Collaborate with leadership to expand minimally invasive and robotic surgery programs.
  • Develop and refine outpatient clinical pathways to ensure high-quality outcomes for liver cancer and hepatobiliary patients.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding liver disease, pre-operative optimization, and post-operative expectations.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for community and internal referring providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Support clinical research initiatives within the hepatobiliary and transplant programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited or New York State Education department approved Physician Assistant education program.
  • 5 years of nursing or related clinical experience.
  • Current New York State Physician Assistant (PA) License.
  • NCCPA Board Certification.
  • BLS Certification.
  • DEA Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS Certification.
