Classroom Assistant II

Responsibilities

• Assist certified special education teachers in providing educational and behavioral programming for students with developmental disabilities.
• Support classrooms of students with severe behavior challenges.
• Implement crisis management techniques, including defensive techniques and physical restraint, in response to challenging behaviors.
• Provide educational and behavioral support to students ranging from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as adults with special needs.
• Maintain and record data using computerized and non-computerized formats.

Requirements

• High school or vocational school education (or equivalent).
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to work with students with autism or other special needs.
• Physical capability for lifting, running, playing active games, and performing physical restraints or defensive techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively and provide high-quality client service.

Preferred Qualifications

• College credits in psychology, special education, or a related field.
• Completion of the DDDC undergraduate fieldwork course.
• Valid driver's license with at least two years of driving experience.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders.
