About the role
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the design and management of public works projects, including roads, drainage, stormwater, water, sewer, diking, and solid waste.
- Perform technical design duties, including scoping, specifications, permitting, and scheduling to ensure successful project completion.
- Supervise the daily work activities of engineering and technical staff assigned to specific projects.
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Identify and coordinate multiple funding sources and prepare grant applications for department programs.
- Collaborate on the preparation of comprehensive plans, policies, reports, and annual budgets.
- Provide technical recommendations and management services to district officials regarding diking and flood control facilities.
- Investigate and resolve citizen complaints in a professional and tactful manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- For Associate level: One year of broad-based civil engineering experience and Engineer in Training (EIT) certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- For Engineer III/Senior level: Four years of broad-based civil engineering experience and a Professional Engineer (PE) license from Washington or a state with reciprocity.
- Valid unrestricted driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Water Distribution Manager certification or the ability to acquire it.
- Experience with NPDES Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit requirements.
- Experience working with the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on levee inspection or emergency response planning.
