About the role

Responsibilities

  • Investigate suspicious, sudden, violent, and unattended deaths
  • Perform autopsies and related histological and toxicological examinations
  • Certify causes of death and prepare official reports
  • Testify in court and before grand juries
  • Supervise City Medical Examiners I and support policy development
  • Consult with law enforcement, courts, and other agencies

Requirements

  • Valid New York State license to practice medicine
  • Board certification in forensic pathology or applicable pathology specialty
  • Required residency training in anatomic or clinical pathology
  • Autopsy experience and forensic medicine expertise
  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in neuropathology or pediatric pathology
  • Teaching and administrative experience
  • Prior work in complex medicolegal death investigations
