About the role
Responsibilities
- Investigate suspicious, sudden, violent, and unattended deaths
- Perform autopsies and related histological and toxicological examinations
- Certify causes of death and prepare official reports
- Testify in court and before grand juries
- Supervise City Medical Examiners I and support policy development
- Consult with law enforcement, courts, and other agencies
Requirements
- Valid New York State license to practice medicine
- Board certification in forensic pathology or applicable pathology specialty
- Required residency training in anatomic or clinical pathology
- Autopsy experience and forensic medicine expertise
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in neuropathology or pediatric pathology
- Teaching and administrative experience
- Prior work in complex medicolegal death investigations
