About the role
Responsibilities
- Assess and prioritize patient and family needs for developmentally appropriate child life interventions
- Support patients and families in coping with healthcare-related stress through therapeutic and supportive relationships
- Plan and implement therapeutic interventions and various individual or group play experiences
- Advocate for patient and family-centered care through active communication and partnership
- Provide education regarding illnesses, treatments, procedures, and coping techniques
- Document treatment plans and outcomes within the electronic medical record
- Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Orient and supervise volunteers and assist in the education of visiting students
- Maintain a physically and emotionally safe, therapeutic, and healing environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a relevant field (e.g., child development, family studies, psychology)
- Completion of 10 specific college courses that meet the Child Life Certification Commission's academic eligibility requirements
- Ability to obtain certification from the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) within 18 months of hire
- Previous experience in a pediatric healthcare setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Current ACLP membership
- Membership in the Great Lakes Association of Child Life Professionals (GLACLP)
