About the Company

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL) is part of The New York Public Library (NYPL), a system consisting of four major research libraries and 88 branch libraries. The SNFL is a state-of-the-art, LEED Silver certified, 180,000 square-foot facility and serves as NYPL’s largest and busiest circulating library.

Responsibilities

• Direct overall operation, maintenance, and reliability of all building systems and equipment
• Oversee and validate work performed by outside vendors to ensure technical accuracy and quality
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance programs, maintaining detailed equipment logs
• Operate and troubleshoot critical systems including chillers, cooling towers, generators, and pumps
• Supervise, train, and coordinate engineering and maintenance staff, including refrigerating system operating engineers
• Manage building automation systems (BMS) to maintain optimal environmental conditions
• Lead maintenance of HVAC components, including air filters, coils, and ventilation systems
• Administer departmental operations including budgeting, procurement, and emergency response
• Serve as senior on-site authority during emergencies, acting as an FDNY-certified Fire and Life Safety Director

Requirements

• Experience managing maintenance and operation of physical plants (mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
• Experience supervising and coaching engineering or maintenance staff
• Proficiency with Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Ability to manage budgets, procurement, and vendor contracts
• Knowledge of building code compliance and safety procedures
