Chief Campus Police

Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and day-to-day operation of police and security programs for the Rutgers University-Camden community.
• Manage recruitment, hiring, and promotional processes for personnel assigned to the Camden Division.
• Determine staffing assignments, policing methodologies, and local priorities to ensure community safety.
• Maintain strategic partnerships with county and local law enforcement leadership to coordinate protection and crime prevention.
• Ensure all police units adhere to New Jersey State Statutes and University operating standards.
• Implement strategic goals, policies, and procedures as directed by the Vice President of Public Safety.
• Coordinate long-term and short-term planning for regular and special campus events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or a related field.
• Graduate of an accredited New Jersey State Police training school.
• Commissioned police officer under Chapter 18A of the New Jersey State Statutes.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience as a commissioned officer.
• Minimum of 3 years of command-level experience in an intermediate to medium-sized police organization.
• Valid Driver’s License and current New Jersey Police Training Certificate.
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills with the ability to work effectively in a diverse urban/suburban environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Police Science, Public Administration, or an equivalent field.
• Graduation from the FBI National Academy.
• Completion of specialized professional police schools or significant advanced coursework.
