Chess Teacher

Responsibilities

• Build a classroom culture in which scholars develop a love for chess and enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Teach a rigorous chess curriculum progressing from basics to checkmate patterns and tactics
• Coach and develop a high-performing team of scholars to compete in city, state, and national chess tournaments
• Coordinate and lead family chess nights and internal network chess tournaments
• Engage in training and professional development with chess leaders across the network
• Support competitive teams by coaching at tournaments at least 12 Saturdays per school year

Requirements

• Advanced understanding of the game of chess
• Teaching experience with a record of student progress
• Experience working with a group of children
• Leadership experience in a club, team, or organizational setting
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and competing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

• Tournament chess experience
• 2-year or 4-year degree
