About the role
About the Company
Bluestem Biosciences uses American corn and existing bioethanol infrastructure to produce critical chemicals domestically. Our proprietary biomanufacturing process represents a new, cost-effective way to produce platform chemicals at scale, securing U.S. supply chains and reinvesting in agricultural America.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and test bench-scale methods for isolating fermented products and chemical conversion to finished products
- Characterize products and byproducts at each step and evaluate competing processes
- Compare processes and provide recommendations for scale-up
- Support process characterization, optimization, and control for technology transfer
- Collaborate with process engineers to scale up processes
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
- Hands-on experience with small-scale laboratory techniques
- Experience with analytical methods such as LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR, and optical spectroscopies
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a self-starter mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Biological downstream process development experience
- Expertise with statistical software (JMP, R, Minitab, etc.)
- Experience scaling processes from bench to kg scale and beyond
- Expertise in organic chemistry
- Expertise in separations modalities such as distillation and extraction
