About the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant
  • Provide chemical protection of steam generating equipment to minimize corrosion and deposits
  • Operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of de-ionized and ultra-pure water
  • Conduct sampling of water, boiler/turbine cleaning samples, oil, coal ash, and metal deposits
  • Perform analytical testing and monitoring of plant effluents and Flue Gas Desulphurization (scrubber)
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory and on-line equipment and instrumentation
  • Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory supplies inventory
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, including ash pond and drinking water reporting
  • Operate wastewater treatment equipment in compliance with state and federal guidelines

Requirements

  • BS or BA degree in chemistry or physical science (minimum of 25 quarter hours or 12 semester hours of chemistry)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
  • Ability to work shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in non-temperature controlled environments and handle hazardous materials (HAZMAT)
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities in a power plant environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a large water treatment facility (clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis, and de-ionization systems)
  • High level of knowledge regarding chemical treatment methods and water treatment plant operation
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and interpret schematic diagrams, blueprints, and graphs
