About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant
- Provide chemical protection of steam generating equipment to minimize corrosion and deposits
- Operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of de-ionized and ultra-pure water
- Conduct sampling of water, boiler/turbine cleaning samples, oil, coal ash, and metal deposits
- Perform analytical testing and monitoring of plant effluents and Flue Gas Desulphurization (scrubber)
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory and on-line equipment and instrumentation
- Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory supplies inventory
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, including ash pond and drinking water reporting
- Operate wastewater treatment equipment in compliance with state and federal guidelines
Requirements
- BS or BA degree in chemistry or physical science (minimum of 25 quarter hours or 12 semester hours of chemistry)
- Valid driver's license
- Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
- Ability to work shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work in non-temperature controlled environments and handle hazardous materials (HAZMAT)
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and perform physical activities in a power plant environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a large water treatment facility (clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis, and de-ionization systems)
- High level of knowledge regarding chemical treatment methods and water treatment plant operation
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and interpret schematic diagrams, blueprints, and graphs
