Chemical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Assist in the stand-up of a biopolymer-based fibers and nanomaterials spinning facility.
• Provide guidance in developing lab pilot line equipment and sourcing solutions for wet spinning processes.
• Identify equipment for dope pre-processing, including grinding, particle sizing, and dissolution.
• Conduct rheological experiments to identify optimal dope formulations for 100% cellulose and cellulose by-products.
• Optimize wet spinning processes at both lab and pilot levels, including coagulation, washing, and drying conditions.
• Serve as the focal point for research and development efforts, coordinating with various agencies and organizations.

Requirements

• PhD in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 9 years of experience working with cellulose fibers.
• Proven experience with polymer science, rheology, and fiber engineering.
• Experience with the design of biopolymer-based fibers and nanomaterials using melt, wet, dry-jet wet, and electrospinning techniques.
• Strong ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively with personnel at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working at MIT or associated research lab facilities.
• Experience with rheology-driven design and property optimization, integrating molecular dynamics to spinnability and end-use performance.
