Chair, Population and Public Health Sciences

Responsibilities

• Serve as the chief academic and administrative leader for the Department of Population & Public Health Sciences.
• Provide strategic leadership to advance the department's mission in education, research, and community engagement.
• Oversee undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs, ensuring quality and continuous improvement.
• Manage departmental operations, including budgeting, fiscal accountability, staffing, and resource allocation.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain high-quality faculty and staff while supporting their career development.
• Foster a culture of collaborative research, grant activity, and interdisciplinary scholarship.
• Build and maintain partnerships with health systems, agencies, and public health organizations.
• Maintain an active program of teaching and scholarship consistent with expectations for an R2 university.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree or equivalent in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related field.
• Academic rank of Associate or Full Professor.
• At least 1 year of academic leadership experience with the ability to build consensus and manage resources.
• A proven record of collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding for research.
• Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with faculty, students, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree or equivalent specifically in public health.
• Professional experience working within a public health setting.
