Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Responsibilities

• Properly identify patients using two identifiers and collect specimens via venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick.
• Order and process laboratory requests following established procedures to ensure accurate collection and reporting.
• Process, audit, and order body fluids for both inpatient and outpatient specimens.
• Centrifuge and prepare specimens for transport, including creating or receiving packing lists.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including disinfecting surfaces and restocking supplies.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and Clinical Laboratory Scientists to resolve ambiguous or unusual test requests.
• Adhere to HIPAA standards and all compliance policies regarding protected health information.
• Assist in the training of new CPT staff and student externs.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or higher level degree.
• California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification.
• Proficient phlebotomy skills.
• Strong knowledge of pre-analytical processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients and staff.
• Ability to handle stressful situations and changing priorities in a clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
