Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Responsibilities

• Properly identify patients using two identifiers and collect specimens via venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick.
• Order and process laboratory requests following established procedures to ensure accurate collection and reporting.
• Adhere to HIPAA standards when handling protected health information.
• Process, audit, and order body fluids for both inpatient and outpatient specimens.
• Centrifuge and prepare specimens for transport, including creating packing lists.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including disinfecting stations and restocking supplies.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and Clinical Laboratory Scientists to resolve ambiguous or unusual test requests.
• Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments, staff, patients, and visitors.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or higher level degree.
• California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification.
• Proficient phlebotomy skills.
• Strong fine motor skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a clinical environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle stressful situations calmly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
