Casualty Manager

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal casualty business, including complex and large-scale risks, within delegated authority.
• Assess exposures, claims history, and legal liability to determine appropriate pricing, terms, and limits.
• Manage portfolio profitability by monitoring loss ratios, retention, and emerging risk trends.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, agents, and internal distribution partners in the Malaysian market.
• Lead negotiations for bespoke policy wordings and endorsements to ensure alignment with underwriting appetite.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and referral support to junior underwriters and support staff.
• Ensure strict compliance with local regulatory requirements, underwriting guidelines, and company policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in insurance, risk management, law, business, finance, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of commercial insurance experience.
• Substantial hands-on experience in casualty underwriting with the ability to handle complex risks independently.
• Strong technical knowledge of commercial casualty products, policy wordings, and risk assessment.
• Deep understanding of the Malaysian commercial insurance market and broker landscape.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional insurance qualification such as AMII, ACII, or CPCU.
• Experience working with multinational programs or international brokers.
