About the role
Responsibilities
- Report and peer review a wide range of forensic toxicology casework, including unexplained deaths, assaults, and sexual assault cases
- Provide expert witness testimony in court
- Devise case strategies that incorporate quality considerations and cost-effective approaches
- Manage a personal caseload independently and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales
- Ensure all critical findings are checked in line with standard operating procedures and quality manuals
- Seek continual improvement of methodologies and processes to enhance team effectiveness
Requirements
- A relevant science-based degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in reporting and interpreting results from casework toxicology in various biological and non-biological matrices
- Proven experience in peer reviewing casework toxicology and attending court as an expert witness
- Strong understanding of the analytical techniques used in forensic toxicology
- Eligibility for NPPV3 and Security Clearance (SC), which requires 5 years of continuous UK residency
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience mentoring, training, or supervising junior reporting scientists
- Experience working to ISO17025 and FSR Codes within a forensic toxicology setting
- Competency in the analysis and interpretation of common and less common drugs
- Experience working in a busy laboratory environment
