Carpenter

Responsibilities

• Remodel, repair, and maintain carpentry items including wooden trim, doors, sashes, partitions, cabinet shelving, and flooring.
• Operate power woodworking equipment such as saws, planers, drills, shapers, or sanders to fabricate or repair components.
• Use hand tools for on-scene and finish work.
• Work from blueprints or sketches to construct and finish wooden portions of the Medical Center.
• Install door locks and remove window sashes.
• Perform minor maintenance on carpentry equipment and requisition necessary materials.
• Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff by keeping work areas neat, clean, and safe.
• Communicate with hospital staff and visitors with tact, courtesy, and respect for patient privacy.

Requirements

• High School graduate.
• Successful completion of a recognized apprentice program in carpentry.
• Knowledge of the working properties of various woods, plastic, Formica, tile, and metal trim.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, sketches, and written instructions.
• Proficiency with the use and maintenance of power and hand woodworking equipment.
• Ability to work from ladders and scaffolds.
• Physical capability to perform strenuous activity and work efficiently in a medical environment.
• Strong knowledge of safety rules, practices, and equipment.
