About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group career counselling to diverse medical learners to support their progression through medical education and into professional practice
  • Counsel and advise medical students on career development by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances
  • Screen for referrals for academic advising and other counselling services for students in distress
  • Develop and deliver learning outcomes and content for workshops and evaluate program effectiveness
  • Stay informed on labour market, occupational, and educational work trends, including equity, diversity, and inclusion theories
  • Serve as a resource on specific career issues to a group of specialists
  • Build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and career development agencies

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counselling or equivalent education and experience related to career development and advising
  • Minimum five years of experience working with students in professional health-care-related post-secondary educational or training programs
  • Demonstrated experience in career counselling, development, or advising on an individual or group basis
  • Knowledge of AFMC Career Counselling standards
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel between the St. George and Mississauga campuses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research experience or demonstrated proficiency in evaluation and quality assurance
  • Demonstrated skill in cross-cultural communication and inter-professional group facilitation
  • Experience interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures
