Campus Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Enforce College security policies for students, employees, outside vendors, and visitors
• Patrol the campus on foot, bicycle, cart, or car to serve as a visual deterrent to crime and misconduct
• Monitor safety equipment, including surveillance cameras and fire alarms
• Inspect and secure all College facilities to detect fire, property damage, or other irregularities
• Generate and maintain accurate documentation, including incident reports for the Toms River Police Department
• Identify needs for escorts for students, staff, and visitors within departmental policy guidelines
• Participate in annual Campus Security Act (CSA) compliance training

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of experience in security, military, law enforcement, or a related field monitoring property and providing safety
• Ability to perform physical labor, including transporting equipment such as fire extinguishers weighing up to 40 pounds
• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License in good standing
• Ability to successfully complete the Ocean County College training program to become certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED within 90 days

Preferred Qualifications

• Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) certification
• Prior experience working in a college or university setting
• Graduation from an accredited police academy with certification by the Police Training Commission of New Jersey
• Certification and ability to carry a firearm as a Retired Police Officer (RPO)
