Campus Safety Officer I

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to ensure safety and security.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, including fire, burglar alarms, and medical emergencies.
• Enforce university regulations, civil laws, and campus motor vehicle policies.
• Secure buildings and structures, checking for signs of vandalism, fire, or other hazards.
• Investigate incidents involving assault, battery, or illegal substance use on university property.
• Prepare clear and concise incident reports, criminal reports, and supplemental documentation.
• Assist with traffic control during special events and provide escort services as requested.
• Communicate effectively with university personnel and local law enforcement, fire, and safety agencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of related experience in security or law enforcement (relevant military experience considered).
• Valid California driver’s license with an acceptable DMV driving record.
• Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first three months of employment.
• Ability to work flexible hours and shifts as needed.
• Physical ability to perform patrols, including walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, and responding to emergencies via running or cycling.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard Card.
