Campus Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide patrol and dispatch (911) services to ensure the safety and security of the university community
• Monitor community members for adherence to the Student Code of Conduct and university policies
• Receive emergency and non-emergency calls, determine priority, and dispatch personnel accordingly
• Coordinate incident response with 911 dispatch and outside agencies
• Conduct timely case investigations and write detailed case reports
• Patrol campus for suspicious behavior, safety hazards, and public assistance opportunities
• Perform building tours, lock-ups, and unlocks
• Provide vehicular and pedestrian traffic control and assist motorists with disabled vehicles
• Enforce university parking regulations and issue citations
• Provide basic first aid and lay first responder emergency medical care

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid New York State driver’s license
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid New York State (DCJS) security guard license
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to multitask in stressful environments
• Ability to climb stairs, patrol on foot, stand/sit for long periods, and drive a motor vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid New York State (DCJS) security guard license
• Previous experience as a campus safety/security officer or in a college/university environment
• Experience in recognizing and resolving emergency or stressful situations
• Knowledge of local and state laws
• CPR, EMT, and First Aid certification
• Associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field
