Campus Safety Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide patrol and dispatch services to ensure the safety and security of the university community
• Monitor community members for adherence to the Student Code of Conduct and university policies
• Receive emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatch personnel accordingly
• Coordinate incident response with 911 dispatch and other outside agencies
• Conduct timely case investigations and write detailed case reports
• Patrol the campus for suspicious behavior, safety hazards, and public assistance opportunities
• Perform building tours, lock-ups, and unlocks
• Provide vehicular and pedestrian traffic control and assist motorists
• Enforce university parking regulations and issue citations
• Provide basic first aid and lay first responder emergency medical care

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to complete the Security Officer Academy and the Field Training program
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to work rotating schedules, including weekdays, evenings, overnights, and holidays
• Compliance with the New York State Security Guard Act
• Ability to physically respond to incidents, including climbing stairs and patrolling on foot

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field
• Military experience
• Experience with access control, CCTV, or two-way radios
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Familiarity with CAD or Banner systems
• Previous experience in campus safety, security, or law enforcement
