Campus Police Officer

Responsibilities

• Perform campus patrol and security functions to ensure human safety and the security of campus property
• Utilize proactive policing and community-building techniques to resolve law enforcement scenarios
• Respond to emergency situations, providing basic first aid and liaising with other emergency agencies
• Apprehend, identify, investigate, and charge criminal suspects in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes
• Prepare written reports, collect evidence, and gather victim or witness statements
• Maintain high visibility on foot and by vehicle to identify and mitigate hazardous conditions
• Monitor police/fire radio channels and emergency phone lines to respond to calls for service
• Perform traffic control duties and motorist assistance
• Lead and participate in crime prevention and campus safety training programs

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Current NC Law Enforcement Certification or the ability to obtain certification (including completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training)
• Valid NC driver’s license and a clean driving record
• Ability to pass a clear criminal background check and psychological exam
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to work various hours, including overnight shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call assignments
• Ability to stand or walk constantly for up to 12 hours and lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in criminal justice or a related field
• Prior experience in law enforcement
• CPR, First-Aid, and/or AED certifications
