About the role

About the Company

Human Archive is a research lab backed by Y Combinator focused on modeling human embodied intelligence. Founded by Stanford and UC Berkeley researchers, we build custom hardware products to recover human embodied intelligence as a learned model, advancing research into robotics and world modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Own the entire optics and calibration stack including lens selection, image quality, intrinsics, extrinsics, ISP tuning, and multi-camera alignment
  • Perform lens characterization, sensor evaluation, and optical mount tolerance budgeting
  • Manage image quality and ISP tuning including AE, AWB, color matrix, and lens shading correction
  • Develop multi-stage calibration pipelines for camera intrinsics, fisheye distortion, stereo extrinsics, and Camera-IMU spatial/temporal calibration
  • Design calibration infrastructure including rigs, fixtures, software pipelines, and automated QA systems
  • Implement factory-floor calibration procedures and field calibration drift monitoring

Requirements

  • Hands-on multi-camera calibration experience (intrinsics, stereo, multi-rig)
  • Fisheye distortion modeling expertise (Kannala-Brandt or equivalent)
  • IMU calibration experience covering bias, alignment, Allan variance, and temperature curves
  • Experience with calibration tooling and infrastructure for production
  • Ability to work in both optics labs and software stacks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with OpenCV, Kalibr, or similar calibration frameworks
  • ISP tuning experience on Qualcomm, NXP, or Ambarella platforms
  • Background in AR/VR, autonomous vehicles, or research-grade capture devices
  • Experience with Camera-IMU temporal alignment
  • Manufacturing calibration line experience
  • Expertise in uncertainty quantification and error analysis
