Business & Web Applications Developer

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement business, web, and AI-based applications to support academic and administrative functions.
• Oversee the development and administration of the university website and various mobile applications.
• Collaborate on custom data integrations between core systems (e.g., Colleague, Slate) using iPaaS, APIs, and scripting languages.
• Design and implement AI-enabled tools, such as chatbots and automation scripts, using platforms like OpenAI.
• Translate business requirements into functional application designs, workflows, and data structures.
• Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize reliability and speed.
• Partner with information security to ensure data protection and compliance with standards like FERPA and GDPR.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for systems architecture, integrations, and AI solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in web development, systems integration, or a related field.
• Proficiency in scripting languages including Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell.
• Hands-on experience with web frameworks and technology stacks such as React, Django, or PostgreSQL.
• Strong knowledge of API development and RESTful services.
• Familiarity with AI technologies and LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI).
• Understanding of client-server architecture, web scaling, and performance optimization.
• Excellent communication, project management, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience working within higher education IT environments.
• Familiarity with Ellucian Colleague, Slate, or PowerFAIDS.
• Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or AI/ML technologies.
