Bus Driver

Responsibilities

• Drive bus safely according to YMCA policies, procedures, and state laws
• Maintain safety precautions during passenger boarding and departing
• Ensure the safety and well-being of children in care
• Promote a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment
• Keep first aid supplies fully stocked
• Ensure the bus is empty of all passengers at the end of each shift
• Maintain positive relationships and communication with parents, participants, and staff
• Ensure bus rules are announced and followed by passengers
• Complete thorough before-and-after trip checks, recording gas, mileage, and maintenance
• Clean the bus daily
• Attend required staff meetings and trainings

Requirements

• Valid Driver License
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for larger capacity vans/buses
• Knowledge of commercial passenger vehicle rules and guidelines
• Basic computer skills for time tracking and email
• Ability to complete Child Abuse Prevention training
• Obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire
• Ability to complete required annual training hours

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one year of experience as a school bus driver
• Previous experience working with diverse populations
• Ability to develop authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
