About the role
Responsibilities
- Identify, diagnose, repair, and maintain building utility systems including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical controls
- Maintain relative pressures and air quantities in HVAC systems and manage central refrigeration units
- Repair and maintain existing plumbing systems and appliances such as refrigeration and package A/C equipment
- Utilize building blueprints to determine the location and layout of circuits, ducts, and piping
- Use various hand tools and power equipment including drill presses, saws, threaders, and grinding wheels
- Requisition necessary materials and supplies to complete repairs
- Maintain a neat, clean, and safe work area while completing departmental paperwork accurately
- Communicate with patients, visitors, and hospital staff with tact and courtesy
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a recognized apprentice program as a Building Engineer or equivalent progressive experience in building repair and maintenance
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and written instructions
- Proficiency with power and hand tools used in building maintenance
- Ability to work safely on ladders and scaffolds
- Physical capability to perform strenuous activity and manual labor efficiently
- Knowledge of safety rules, practices, and equipment
