About the role
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safe and economical operation and maintenance of all utility equipment and associated services for UTM campus buildings
- Conduct regular rounds of mechanical equipment to check temperatures, pressures, and perform water chemical treatment tests
- Perform running maintenance and minor repairs on valves, steam traps, pressure reducing stations, and other similar equipment
- Execute assigned inspection and preventative maintenance tasks via work order systems
- Monitor equipment operation through the Building Management System and respond promptly to trouble calls or alarms
- Maintain daily log sheets recording equipment operation, breakdowns, and malfunctions
- Operate and test fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and emergency lighting
- Coordinate with outside contractors for shutdown work and repairs
Requirements
- Third (3rd) Class Operating Engineer Certification valid in the Province of Ontario
- High School graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an operating engineer
- Strong working knowledge of refrigeration, heating (boilers), and air handling systems
- Basic electrical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows OS
- Familiarity with computerized Building Automation Systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Building Environmental Systems Certificate
