About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform highly complex budget preparation and analysis, including maintaining annual operating budgets
- Prepare biennial legislative appropriation requests and Legislative Budget Board deliverables
- Analyze and examine budget usage trends at the program and department levels
- Prepare department-level budgetary and management reports, including financial statements
- Review financial and operating budget reports for accuracy and identify appropriate fund usage
- Provide technical assistance to staff regarding budget and financial matters
- Assist in developing instructions for budget and funding policies, procedures, and methods
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field
- Five years of relevant work experience in financial management, bookkeeping, or budget analysis
- Proficiency in MS Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge of state and federal budget laws and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MS Excel including pivot tables, macros, and complex functions
- Experience with Automated Budget Evaluation System of Texas (ABEST)
- Experience with CAPPS HR, CAPPS Financials, or other automated accounting systems
- Experience in the development and preparation of Legislative Appropriation Requests
- Experience leading team projects and working in a collaborative environment
