Budget & Contract Specialist

Responsibilities

• Negotiate, prepare, and finalize unencumbered grant funding agreements from primary sponsors and collaborating sites.
• Support researchers and internal stakeholders in understanding complex budgets, including eligible expense categories and matched funding requirements.
• Review and interpret funder policies and budgetary requirements to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and UHN policies.
• Assist Grant Officers and Specialists in interpreting terms and conditions on grant submissions.
• Streamline the flow of grant funding among collaborators in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Provide advice on funder/agency budget and related policy requirements to other Research Services departments.

Requirements

• Master's degree in a health, science, or business-related discipline.
• Minimum of one year of practical and related experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple competing demands.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
• Proven ability to work under pressure and maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within the healthcare industry or a university research service team.
• Familiarity with Tri-Agency and NIH processes.
• Experience with finance, accounting, or budget management.
• Experience with contract and file management systems.
