Budget Analyst

Responsibilities

• Assist department management in all phases of budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting
• Prepare comprehensive budget request forms and variance reports
• Provide guidance to departmental staff throughout the annual budget process
• Analyze department financial performance against budgets and offer recommendations for adjustments
• Prepare financial reports and forecasts specific to departmental needs
• Maintain detailed records of expenditures and revenue using complex spreadsheets
• Analyze enterprise resource planning (ERP) system issues and recommend solutions
• Conduct ad hoc research, analysis, and auditing projects to support strategic decision-making
• Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure compliance with budgetary policies
• Support the preparation and maintenance of financial documentation for grant management or contract compliance

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Public Administration
• Four years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or a related field
• Proficiency in spreadsheet software and data analysis tools
• Strong knowledge of budgetary principles, financial management, and fiscal analysis methods
• Knowledge of auditing and expenditure control systems and procedures
• Ability to research, compile, and interpret complex financial data
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
• Experience in public sector financial management or government accounting
