Bridge Engineer

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs and contract documents for the repair or replacement of various bridge structures
• Provide construction support, including the review of shop drawings
• Perform in-service condition inspections of highway bridges and document defects
• Prepare inspection reports and complete computations to calculate load ratings for various bridge types
• Work within a multi-disciplinary team on transportation projects for VDOT and other agencies

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program
• 5-10 years of relevant bridge engineering experience
• Proficiency in MicroStation, GEOPAK, and Open Bridge software
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO bridge specifications and VDOT policies
• P.E. license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or ability to obtain via comity within 6 months) preferred
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills
• Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state on a limited basis as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field
• NBIS-certified bridge inspection team leader with current NHI-130055 certification
• Experience with VDOT bridge safety inspections
