Bridge Design Lead, Rail and Transit

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of freight and passenger rail bridge projects from concept through detailed design and construction.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams, defining design criteria, establishing work scopes, and preparing budgets and schedules.
• Perform complex technical engineering tasks, including structural analysis models, detailed calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
• Conduct engineering assessments of existing complex rail structures to support rehabilitation, renewal, and replacement recommendations.
• Provide technical oversight and mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and CAD drafters.
• Support project pursuits by estimating budgets, assessing staffing needs, and writing successful technical proposals.
• Manage client relationships and ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and railway-specific regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in rail bridge engineering design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling and analysis software, specifically CSI Bridge or MIDAS Civil.
• Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
• Proven ability to mentor less experienced engineering staff.
