Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person breastfeeding information, benefits, and encouragement to WIC pregnant and postpartum women.
• Counsel participants through face-to-face interactions, telephone support, breastfeeding classes, and support groups.
• Manage a caseload of WIC participants, offering support to overcome common barriers and establish successful breastfeeding.
• Refer complex breastfeeding concerns or medical issues to the Program Coordinator, nutritionist, or healthcare providers.
• Maintain accurate records of all contacts and complete weekly activity worksheets using the StarLINC system.
• Attend required agency meetings, monthly staff meetings, and state-sponsored training sessions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency credential.
• Six months of related experience.
• Must be a currently or formerly successful breastfeeding mother who has participated in the WIC program.
• Proficiency with computer and office software applications.
• Ability to work independently outside of the WIC clinic setting.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to provide counseling in a courteous, professional, and non-judgmental manner.
