About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop crane layouts and rigging drawings for lift plans using Barnhart’s custom lifting tools
  • Create layout drawings for heavy machinery moving projects utilizing gantries, slide systems, modular trailers, and lift towers
  • Produce drawings for heavy transportation projects including over-the-road, on-site, and barge roll-on/roll-off operations
  • Use AutoCAD, Inventor, Mathcad, RISA, and Barnhart calculation spreadsheets to engineer heavy lift and transport solutions
  • Perform field walk-down assessments to develop equipment lists, identify issues, and create technical sketches for bids
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers and Superintendents from the office or on job sites as required
  • Design custom lifting or support tools per AISC, ASME, and other industry standards
  • Serve as field technical liaison for complex projects, managing risk and performing safety and quality evaluations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and engineering calculation software
  • Strong mathematical, reasoning, and communication skills
  • Ability to work from job sites and the office as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Inventor, Mathcad, and RISA
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Familiarity with AISC Steel Construction Manual and ASME Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices standards
