Blaster

Responsibilities

• Abrade metal or hard-composition surfaces using abrasive-blasting equipment to remove scale, paint, rust, and dirt
• Mask specified areas of objects to protect them from abrading action
• Regulate pressure and abrasive mixture composition by adjusting equipment valves
• Operate equipment that directs abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surfaces
• Examine finished parts to ensure they meet required specifications
• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate potential hazards
• Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine necessary work activities
• Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools and machinery
• Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, and other temporary structures
• Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces using various abrasive tools

Requirements

• 1 to 2 years of experience in the field or a related area
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
