About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct biological surveys in minimally managed landscapes on the UM-Dearborn campus to assess conditions supporting birdlife
- Use assessment data to create a Habitat Management Guide with recommendations for improving native bird resources
- Perform GIS mapping and organize spatial data
- Generate and update StoryMaps
- Research and assist in the installation of bird collision deterrent film on EIC building windows
Requirements
- Current UM-Dearborn student or very recent graduate
- Background coursework in field biology and/or field ecology
- Familiarity with field observation and identification techniques for local flora and native birdlife
- Basic knowledge of ecological processes and concepts
- Strong interest in birds and bird conservation
- Ability to work independently, stay organized, and perform field work comfortably
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training using a variety of ArcGIS software programs and applications
- Familiarity with the EIC mission and goals
- Ability to integrate feedback from staff and visitors into map design and project goals
- Proven ability to solve technical problems independently
