About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a global biosafety program across all JAX locations.
- Provide expert guidance on the identification, evaluation, and control of biological risks, including containment strategies and laboratory practices.
- Oversee biological and chemical risk assessments, protocol reviews, and program support for regulated biohazards.
- Collaborate with the Institutional Biosafety Committee and other governance bodies to review new research, amendments, and incidents.
- Develop and maintain biosafety manuals, exposure control plans, training materials, and guidance documentation.
- Monitor program performance through audits, inspections, and metrics to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Lead investigations into biosafety incidents and deviations to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, public health, environmental health and safety, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in biosafety, EHS, or laboratory safety within a research or biotechnology environment.
- Strong knowledge of biosafety principles, laboratory containment practices, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience conducting biological and chemical risk assessments and supporting incident investigations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical guidance for researchers and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience supporting biosafety programs across multiple geographic locations or within a global organization.
- Familiarity with CDC and NIH biosafety guidance, NIH Guidelines, and OSHA requirements.
- Knowledge of management systems such as ISO 35001, ISO 45001, or ISO 14001.
