Biology Lab Manager

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all teaching laboratories, including procurement, inventory, and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Manage the departmental supply budget, including acquiring quotes and forecasting needs.
• Supervise Biology Department student workers, including hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and timesheet approval.
• Oversee the department’s safety program and serve as the OSHA liaison and safety inspector.
• Consult with faculty to coordinate lab set-ups, take-downs, and standardized lab protocols.
• Maintain laboratory spaces, signage, and equipment repairs in coordination with University Facilities.
• Support departmental activities such as BioClub advising, Honey and Plant Sales, and Biosymposium coordination.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• Ability to learn and implement OSHA safety standards in a biology lab setting.
• Proficiency in MS Office and/or Google Workspace.
• Understanding of general working operations within a biology laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity with digital record-keeping and/or inventory management systems.
• Knowledge of diverse biological fields and relevant laboratory supplies.
