About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage planning and development for a comprehensive bicycle wayfinding program
- Conduct inventory and create a GIS database of all greenway and bicycle wayfinding signage
- Analyze existing signage networks to produce a citywide strategy plan
- Conduct on-site user testing and analysis of proposed strategy plans
- Facilitate internal workshops and coordination with partner agencies
- Document new design, content, and siting guidelines
- Produce comprehensive signage network plans and progress reports
- Create the annual NYC DOT bike map using Adobe Creative Suite
- Coordinate the maintenance and organization of bicycle facility GIS data
Requirements
- Must be serving permanently in the civil service title of Graphic Artist or reachable on civil service list #4123
- Baccalaureate degree in fine or graphic arts plus one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist, OR equivalent technical training and experience
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator)
- Experience with CAD and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational, communication, and graphic design skills
- Willingness to work in the field in all seasons using bike, walking, or mass transit
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience in urban planning, urban design, geography, or cartography
- Experience with relational databases such as Microsoft Access
- Demonstrated interest in cycling and the NYC built environment
