Bicycle Design Lead

Responsibilities

• Aid in the design and development of construction-ready plans for bicycle infrastructure projects
• Review existing right-of-way and develop detailed proposed roadway cross-section designs
• Prepare maps and technical drawings using AutoCAD, Illustrator, GIS, and other graphic tools
• Create comprehensive AutoCAD drawings showing vehicle and bike lane configurations, intersection treatments, and pavement markings
• Coordinate with project managers and engineers to translate conceptual designs into construction documents
• Manage multiple concurrent design projects and meet critical deadlines
• Review and quality-check drawings produced by junior staff and consultants
• Conduct community outreach and speak at public meetings with community boards and stakeholders
• Review traffic studies to assess impacts and prepare presentations for proposed improvements

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering with one year of full-time experience, or a Master's degree in civil engineering
• Advanced AutoCAD proficiency with 3-5 years of experience in civil engineering or transportation design
• Strong understanding of roadway design principles, geometric design, and complete streets concepts
• Knowledge of protected bicycle lane design standards and implementation best practices
• Experience applying MUTCD, AASHTO, or NACTO design guidelines
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
• Experience with ArcGIS or other GIS software
• Valid New York State driver's license
