Behaviour Support Worker

Responsibilities

• Collect patient behaviour information through direct observation, caregiver and support interviews and other standardized assessments
• Work collaboratively with BSS Mental Health Clinicians to contribute to behavioural care plans
• Implement behavior support strategies with patients
• Maintain accurate clinical and operational records according to policy
• Provide education and support to care teams
• Provide transitional support to Long-Term Care Homes (LTCHs)

Requirements

• Completion of a 2-year community college program in behaviour sciences, mental health studies, social service worker, gerontology or equivalent
• One year of related practical experience in LTCH, acute care, or mental health care settings
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Knowledge of applicable LTCH, mental health, and hospital legislation and policies
• Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of P.I.E.C.E.S., GPA, U-FIRST, and Dementiability training
• Understanding of Behavioural Supports Ontario Project principles
• Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver's license
• Eligibility for membership in relevant professional associations
