About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide constant, uninterrupted one-to-one observation for assigned patients at risk for self-harm, aggression, or emotional distress
- Document accurate and objective safety observations in accordance with organizational policy and established intervals
- Report escalating patient behaviors, mood changes, and concerning activities to the clinical care team promptly
- Assist patients with basic activities of daily living, including meals, hydration, and ambulation
- Support patient orientation to the unit, reinforcing safety protocols, behavioral standards, and patient rights
- Conduct environmental safety rounds and immediately report potential hazards
- Assist with patient visitation by maintaining a calm environment and monitoring for behavioral triggers
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Ability to maintain continuous alertness and adherence to safety protocols
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and respond quickly during emergencies
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with patient observation in psychiatric, behavioral health, hospital, or healthcare settings
