About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide constant, uninterrupted one-to-one observation for assigned patients at risk for self-harm, aggression, or emotional distress
- Document accurate and objective safety observations in accordance with organizational policy and established intervals
- Report escalating patient behaviors, mood changes, and concerning activities to the clinical care team promptly
- Assist patients with basic activities of daily living, including meals, hydration, and ambulation
- Help maintain a safe and supportive environment by conducting environmental safety rounds and reporting hazards
- Assist with patient orientation to the unit and reinforce behavioral standards and safety protocols
- Support staff during patient visitations by monitoring for mood agitation or behavioral triggers
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent observation skills and ability to maintain continuous alertness
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with patient observation in psychiatric, behavioral health, hospital, or other healthcare settings
