About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide constant, uninterrupted one-to-one observation for assigned patients at risk for self-harm, aggression, or emotional distress
  • Document accurate and objective safety observations in accordance with organizational policy and established intervals
  • Report escalating patient behaviors, mood changes, and concerning activities to the clinical care team promptly
  • Assist patients with basic activities of daily living, including meals, hydration, and ambulation
  • Help maintain a safe and supportive environment by conducting environmental safety rounds and reporting hazards
  • Assist with patient orientation to the unit and reinforce behavioral standards and safety protocols
  • Support staff during patient visitations by monitoring for mood agitation or behavioral triggers

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent observation skills and ability to maintain continuous alertness
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with patient observation in psychiatric, behavioral health, hospital, or other healthcare settings
