About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide constant, uninterrupted one-to-one observation for assigned patients at risk for self-harm, aggression, or emotional distress
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment by reporting escalating behaviors, mood changes, and concerning activities to the clinical team
- Complete and document accurate, timely, and objective safety observations in accordance with organizational policy and required intervals
- Assist patients with basic activities of daily living, including ambulation, meals, hydration, and comfort measures
- Help orient patients to the unit environment and reinforce behavioral standards, safety protocols, and patient rights
- Conduct environmental safety rounds and immediately report potential safety hazards
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to perform essential duties
- Ability to maintain continuous alertness and strict adherence to safety protocols
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and composed in stressful or crisis situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with patient observation in psychiatric, behavioral health, hospital, or other healthcare settings
